ECHO EARTH WEEKS

APRIL 14 - 27, 2008; 9:30AM - 1:00PM

In celebration of Earth Day ECHO has created ECHO Earth Weeks - fourteen festive days of exciting programming that bring fun and stewardship messages to all our guests. ECHO invites all students - school groups, home school students, after school programs and preschools - to sign up in advance to share their love of the Lake Champlain Basin during Earth Weeks on weekday mornings during the festival.

Students are invited to create a classroom table top activity or group performance on an ecology, culture, history and/or stewardship topic that allows students to share what they think are the most interesting and important environmental stories in our region. Schools must pre-register - the 10 dates will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis for up to 5 schools per date. A waitlist will be developed if needed.

See ECHO Earth Weeks Program, Performance and Exhibit Criteria, and Registration details below.

ECHO EARTH WEEKS PROGRAM

  • Monday - Friday mornings from 9:30 - 1:00, ECHO will showcase student exhibits and performances.
  • Daily presentations and demonstrations by Environmental Partner Organizations.
  • Stewardship Activity using our high tech PRS program.
  • ECHO Earth Weeks MudFest: Stay longer and check out MudFest's hands-on activities, stories, live music and free chocolate ice cream!
  • All of ECHO's fantastic Exhibits and ECHO Encounters!

PERFORMANCE AND EXHIBIT CRITERIA

Brainstorm with your students about what they think are the important environmental issues today both in the Lake Champlain Basin and beyond – is it the rivers, wetlands, forests and fields that make up our region? Consider topics such as animals, plants, habitats, invasive species, geology, human impact, drinking water, agriculture, historical periods, cultural influences or industry. Create an exciting component to your curriculum by coming to ECHO Earth Weeks.

Table Top Activity Exhibit Criteria

  • Durable and portable pieces (wood, metal, laminated or plastic).
  • Safe (no projectiles or running activities please!).
  • Can be played by guests of all ages in 10 minutes or less.
  • Uses no more than a 4'X4' table area or 10' x 10' floor space.
  • Students must be assigned a time to "staff" the table with adult supervision.
  • Students should be prepared for public speaking and be able to share their knowledge with guests clearly and with a smile!
  • When not staffing their activity, they may explore in groups with a chaperone.
Performance Criteria
  • All students should play a role in the performance creation and/or delivery.
  • Consider exciting formats such as a skit, song, film, game show, puppets, demonstration, commercial or newscast.
  • Audience participation is encouraged!
