SPEAKERS |
Bringing science to our guests through fascinating conversation is part of our lifelong-learning mission. |
Café Scientifique
ECHO's Café Scientifique was launched in November 2007. We average about 70 people per program,
presented every other month during the academic year. Café Scientifique takes place by our beautiful bubble tower
— with
candles and soft blue lights, a cash bar, and free hors
d’oeuvres. Snacks, socializing, and drinks begin at 6:30 p.m.,
and discussion begins at 7 p.m. Our audience ranges from young
adults (21+) and lifelong learners well into retirement.
Our goal is to engage people in thoughtful conversations about
hot-button science topics, with the participation of an
acknowledged expert in each field. Check out our
Café Scientifique page for current
topics. |

Meet the Scientist
Meet the Scientist began in 2008 when we realized people
wanted to know more about the current science research in
universities around Burlington. Scientists come in to explain
their research, lead a hands-on activity (like a fish
dissection, playing with nanotubes, or smashing rocks to see
what's inside), and encourage a fun dialogue. These programs are
for audience members 16+ who might be interested in science
careers or exploring how science research is done. Topics have
included: fisheries biology, phytoplankton, nanoscience,
paleolimnology, geology, and severe weather. Come join us for
great dialog and a smashing good time. Check the
Events Calendar for upcoming topics.

Pre-Opening Exhibit parties
Our Pre-Opening Exhibit parties for
Members
often include an adult speaker. The
INDIGENOUS EXPRESSIONS opening
featured a Smithsonian Archaeologist talk on finding a chert
that linked the Basin with Paleo-Indian trading pathways up to
Labrador during the glacial period.
