Every day is an adventure at ECHO! ECHO Encounters, our brand of daily hands-on activities, changes regularly with new exhibit installations, new, dynamic volunteers willing to share their expertise, and outside partners adding their talents and knowledge to program events.

NanoDays

Saturday, March 30, 2013
From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

NanoDays Logo

ECHO, in partnership with the UVM Society of Physics Students, is a part of a nationwide festival of educational programs about nanoscale science and engineering. This community-based event is the largest public outreach effort in nanoscale informal science education and involves science museums, research centers, and universities from Puerto Rico to Alaska. NanoDays celebrations bring university researchers together with science educators to create new and unique learning experiences for both children and adults to explore the miniscule world of atoms, molecules, and nanoscale forces.

We’ll be combining fun hands-on activities with presentations on current research. Some of these activities include:

Nano & Society: Yes, space elevators are being explored. We'll show
you how they are envisioning this by using super strong carbon
nanofibers.

Properties of Materials: We'll demonstrate new materials that bend light to make objects less reflective or even invisible!

UV Bracelets and Photochromic materials: See how these materials change color in ultraviolet light.

Hydrogel: The material that has super absorption properties!

3D Imaging: We'll have a live 3D image demonstration and
explain how 3D movies work.

Mystery Shapes: See how atomic force microscopes work.

Liquid Crystal Displays: Discover how liquid crystal displays work.

Computer Hard Drives: Explore how computer hard drives store
data with an activity to make your own byte of data.

Moving Molecules: Air is made up of tiny building blocks. Explore these nanomaterial like structures.

Free with admission.
