DISCOVERY
PLACE

Learning while doing couldn't be more applicable in these two action-packed exhibit areas — there are lots of opportunities for "parallel play" too!

Discovery PlaceFast friendships are formed in the bow of a sailboat in Discovery Place.

Step into a special room of discovery designed for ECHO's littlest visitors! Discovery Place takes the theme of the mid-1800's Burlington Waterfront and presents miniature icons for physical play. Sound the horn on the lighthouse by passing through the tunnel. Climb (and slide down!) a miniature Mount Mansfield. Board a sailboat to skim imaginary waves as you spot Champ surfacing beyond the bow. Load a basket with veggies from the shop, or pop up on a Painted Turtle in the unique aquarium that invites close inspection from "inside" the tank!

Parents and caregivers enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this enclosed space with beautiful views of the Lake and plenty of action for toddlers and preschoolers.

Focused fun is evident as preschools navigate the channels of Watershed Way.

Watershed Way

Where's my boat? Why, it floated downstream, through the rapids into Lake Champlain! How does water move and where does it come from? How is Lake Champlain like a great, big bathtub? Get your mind wet exploring the physical properties of water in Watershed Way. There are plenty of loose props for experimental play with wooden boats, twiddle fish, a waterwheel, shower cloud, and moveable streambeds. A miniature version of the real watershed we call home. Parents, this is an excellent opportunity to get in there with your youngster and create memorable moments in science. (Waterproof smocks are provided).
