THE ROOF |
Explore the Inner Life of Buildings. |

Come to ECHO to explore the inner life of buildings of all
kinds from house to domes to skyscrapers. Learn how they are
built; what holds them up; how they work, and the building
blocks that unite buildings of all shapes and sizes from around
the world.
Though we spend approximately 90% of our lives in buildings, we
don’t think much about the roof over our heads, the floor
beneath our feet, or the doorways we walk through. ECHO's newest
exhibit, which comes to us from the Science Museum of Minnesota,
engages visitors with more than a dozen interactive components
designed to provide hands-on learning of basic building
principles.
Visitors learn about what makes buildings stay up as well as
what it will take to make a building come down. Perhaps the most
dramatic component of the exhibit is the Dome Structure. With
many cranks of the hand, the building walls slowly come together
and the dome connects and voila', a beautiful dome building is
complete. You RAISED THE ROOF yourself!
Buildings are cultural, practical and beautiful structures in
our lives. Visit ECHO and experience the new Raise the Roof
exhibit. Gain a new appreciation of the buildings in your life.
You’ll never look at one the same way again!
