Currently
under design and planning consideration is our new Lake Science
Lab and Adirondack Alcove where teens and adults can immerse
themselves in hands-on investigations with Lake science.
Fully outfitted with equipment geared specifically toward more
sophisticated audiences, this area will improve engagement with
an older demographic that is inadequately served by ECHO’s
current space.
The new lab and presentation space will challenge our older
visitors to get involved in current and complex topics that face
the Lake – from sitting one-on-one with a volunteer examining
fertilizers and lawn runoff, to establishing virtual connections
with researchers and scientists addressing water issues
worldwide.
The new space and technology will allow teen and adult visitors,
groups, and
classes to:
- Access a rich array of topics and investigations for the
eager mind to tackle
- Conduct water quality testing and experiment with Basin
science topics using authentic laboratory technology
- Use science to illustrate issues threatening the Lake
Champlain Basin
- Engage in inquiry science classes
- Present their findings from research they’ve conducted
at ECHO
- Create connections to water stewardship actions they can
take in their daily lives
Popular adult-focused events at ECHO, such as evening drinks
with experts at Café Scientifique and daytime lectures in the
Meet the Scientist series, have shown that grownups are into
science just as much as kids are. |
