Design
and planning is currently under way for our new Discovery Place.
This is designed for our youngest learners. It will be a space
that will invite children and their caregivers to play, listen,
create, and learn together. They’ll explore a new water play
area, our Native American neighbors’ life-ways, and their
connections to Lake Champlain.
Early childhood is a special time for nurturing creativity both
in mind and body. The special pre-school curriculum and exhibit
space will engage our tiniest visitors with:
- Staff-facilitated story time
- Age-appropriate science programming
- A thematic, enclosed space for play
- Water explorations
- An immersed environment that supports gross-motor
development
This expansion will double the space that’s currently available
for our youngest audience and allow us to keep our early
childhood experience top-notch and accessible for all visitors,
including low-income pre-school audiences. By partnering with
area child care resources, we will expand our ability to provide
opportunities that emphasize the Lake as an important part of
each child’s ever-growing environment.During an in-depth strategic planning process, pre-school aged
children clearly emerged as ECHO’s strongest demographic. |
