LAKE
STEWARDSHIP |
How can we create a community that nurtures, protects, and celebrates Lake Champlain
— one of our region's most important natural resources? |
How
can we help cultivate an understanding about the beautiful
yet fragile ecology of the Lake, recognize how our actions
impact its health, and inspire a lifelong love and
relationship with this great Lake?Lake Champlain faces many threats, including non-point
source pollution, invasive species, algae blooms, and a
multitude of other problems directly caused by human
behaviors. ECHO's educational programming, exhibits, and
collections are designed to educate the community and
inspire visitors to use their ability to affect positive
change by becoming stewardship advocates for Lake
Champlain.
We invite you to become active participants in spreading
the word about the importance of respecting our environment
and taking care of our Lake.
| We invite you to share your memories, concerns,
and stories about the Lake with others in our Voices
for the Lake initiative,
or visit our Waterfront location to be inspired!
With Voice for the Lake you can contribute the this
active exhibit from the comfort of your home or from
the exhibit here at ECHO. Either way, thousands upon
thousands of people will be inspired by your
personal story.
This year (2011) ECHO has partnered with the
state's largest daily newspaper, the Burlington Free
Press, in presenting the first annual
Green Mountain
Environmental Leadership Awards. This awards
program is to recognize environmental stewards and
their initiatives that have shaped, inspired,
encourage and supported successful and long-term
leadership of Vermont's rich and diverse natural
environment. The awards are open to all Vermont
groups and individuals and will be based on
activities that have taken place and//or have been
ongoing in the last three years. To find out more
please visit our
Green Mountain Environmental Leadership Awards
application page. |
