ECHO ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF ECHO EARTH WEEKS ART
CONTEST
813 Entries On Display During ECHO Earth Weeks MudFest — April
22-30
(BURLINGTON, VT)--ECHO Earth Weeks, sponsored by Hannaford
Supermarkets, is a two-week celebration of Earth Day, featuring
the ECHO Earth Weeks Art Contest, the current student fair, and
the upcoming Mudfest. For the Art Contest, ECHO reached out to
K-12 students in Vermont and upstate New York to submit their
artistic interpretation of a “Healthy Food Chain.” 813 entries
were submitted to ECHO, which were then judged by an Art Panel
of artists and environmentalists. The Grand Prize artist and the
First Prize winners from three grade levels received various
prizes, including a laptop computer for the Grand Prize Winner’s
classroom. And now, each and every entry, including the winning
artworks, will be on display during ECHO Earth Weeks MudFest,
April 22-30.

In response to the Art Contest, Phelan Fretz, ECHO’s
Executive Director, said, “In our inaugural year of the ECHO
Earth Weeks Art Contest, we chose the theme of a “Healthy
Food Chain” to encourage young people to be more aware of
their personal food chain — that is directly linked to the
food chain of the entire region — by eating more fresh,
local and wholesome food. Their response to the Art Contest
has been overwhelming, and we are delighted to share this
treasure-trove of creativity with the community during ECHO
Earth Weeks Mudfest.”
ECHO Earth Weeks MudFest will be nine days of mud-themed
activities, games, ecology booths, Voices for the Lake
family workshops, and “Muddy Music” at noon, showcasing
Patti Casey (4/22), Pete Sutherland (4/23), Sandra Wright
(4/24), Jon Gailmor (4/25), Sheefra (4/26), Mountain Girl
