ECHO Lake Aquarium & Science Center
HIRES new director of development, steve perkins
BURLINGTON, Vt. — ECHO Lake Aquarium and
Science Center, at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, is
pleased to announce Steve Perkins as the new Director of
Development and Community Relations. He joins the ECHO Team
after a successful ten years at the Bennington Museum, in
Bennington Vermont where he was first hired in 2001 as their
curator and deputy director and in 2005 became the executive
director.
Just one year into his directorship, the
Bennington Bypass opened resulting in a significant drop in the
museum's tourism attendance. Mr. Perkins faced this challenge by
retooling their business plan which led to a significant growth
in their sponsorship, fund raising events, grants and annual
giving support and created extensive community buy-in across
demographic groups.
“This is an exciting time for ECHO. We have a
significant and aggressive capital campaign to finish with the
expansion plans which includes the addition of the new Lakeside
Pavilion opening up in the spring of 2012. All of this makes for
a perfect “diving-in“ point which will allow me the opportunity
to meet many of the wonderful benefactors, friends, members and
caring folks who have worked so hard to make ECHO the kind of
world-class institution and leader in stewardship it is today”,
says Mr. Perkins.
Mr. Perkins received his BA at Goucher College
and his MA from the University of Delaware/Winterthur Museum. He
grew up in Williston, VT and has returned to the historic family
farmstead with his wife Galen and two children. He also
moonlights as a jazz musician. He can be reached at
802.864.1848, ext. 118.
