Virtual Engineering in Action Outreach Programs
An ECHO Educator meets with students live over Zoom to present an engineering design challenge along with an introduction that establishes the context and provides inspiration for the activity. Students build a tool to solve a problem, test their designs and then gather again for a brief discussion led by the ECHO STEM educator.Students will learn about the characteristics of butterflies and the ecology of one the most studied and locally threatened butterflies, the Monarch. Using the resources provided by ECHO in the student materials kits, students will use the Engineering Design Process (EDP) to define and construct a playful solution to a presented problem facing Monarch Butterflies.
Students will learn about the ecology of one of Vermont’s endangered species, the Lake Sturgeon and the efforts being made to restore a healthy population of these special fish to Lake Champlain. Using the resources provided by ECHO in the student materials kits, students will use the Engineering Design Process (EDP) to define and construct a playful solution to a presented problem facing Sturgeon in Lake Champlain.
Students will learn about the characteristics of amphibians including a review of an amphibian life cycle. We will explore the sounds frogs make, why they vocalize and how their vocalizations relate to their annual spring migrations. Using the resources provided by ECHO in the student materials kits, students will use the Engineering Design Process (EDP) to define and construct a playful solution to a presented problem facing amphibian.
